ประวัติความเป็นมา

คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ เป็นหน่วยงานระดับคณะในมหาวิทยาลัย ราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี โดยเริ่มจากการก่อตั้งวิทยาลัยครูสุราษฎร์ธานีซึ่งตั้งขึ้นตามแผนพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งชาติ ฉบับที่ 3 (พ.ศ. 2515 – พ.ศ. 2519) เมื่อวันที่ 29 กันยายน 2516 เป็น 1 ใน 7 แห่งของวิทยาลัยครูที่ตั้งขึ้นใหม่ สังกัดกรมการฝึกหัดครูกระทรวงศึกษาธิการในโครงการเงินกู้ของธนาคารโลก จำนวน 54 ล้านบาท ดำเนินการจัดตั้งเป็นโครงการระยะ 3 ปี ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2517 – พ.ศ. 2519 โดยมีพัฒนาการมาโดยลำดับ

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is a faculty-level unit
at Suratthani Rajabhat University. It originated from the establishment of Surat Thani Teachers
College, which was founded in accordance with the Third National Economic and Social Development
Plan (1972–1976). The college was officially established on September 29, 1973, as one of the seven
newly established teachers colleges under the Department of Teacher Training, Ministry of Education,
through a World Bank loan project worth 54 million baht. The establishment was carried out as a
three-year project from 1974 to 1976, and it has continuously developed over time.

• พุทธศักราช 2519 เริ่มใช้ชื่อคณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์เหมือนกับคณะวิชาอื่น ๆ ของวิทยาลัยครูสุราษฎร์ธานี รับผิดชอบและดำเนินการสอนนักศึกษาระดับประกาศนียบัตรวิชาการศึกษา (ป.กศ.)
• พุทธศักราช 2521 เปิดรับนักศึกษาระดับประกาศนียบัตรวิชาการศึกษาชั้นสูง (ป.กศ. ชั้นสูง) ในวิชาเอกต่างๆสาขามนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์
• พุทธศักราช 2522 ได้ขยายฐานการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีในโครงการอบรมบุคลากรประจำการ (อคป.) ตามนโยบายของวิทยาลัย
• พุทธศักราช 2523 ได้ขยายการจัดการศึกษาโดยรับนักศึกษาภาคปกติระดับปริญญาตรี
• พุทธศักราช 2525 ได้เปิดการสอนตามโครงการอบรมบุคลากรประจำการ (กศ.บป.) ที่จังหวัดชุมพรตามนโยบายของสถาบันที่ต้องการขยายการผลิตบัณฑิตตามความต้องการของท้องถิ่นในพื้นที่รับผิดชอบ
• พุทธศักราช 2528 เปิดรับนักศึกษาทั้งระดับอนุปริญญาและปริญญาตรี สาขานอกเหนือจากสาขาครุศาสตร์ ได้แก่ สาขาศิลปศาสตร์และอีกหลายกลุ่มสาขาวิชา
• พุทธศักราช 2538 ชื่อ “คณะวิชา” เปลี่ยนเป็น “คณะ” ไม่มีคำว่า “วิชา” ต่อท้ายซึ่งเป็นไปตามพระราชบัญญัติสถาบันราชภัฏพุทธศักราช 2538
• พุทธศักราช 2542 ได้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างการบริหารคณะตามนโยบายของสภาสถาบันราชภัฏ คือยกเลิก “ภาควิชา” ให้มีการรวมกลุ่มอาจารย์ในรูปของคณะกรรมการกลุ่มสาขาวิชารับผิดชอบด้านวิชาการเรียกว่า “กลุ่มสาขาวิชา” และมีสำนักงานคณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์เป็นหน่วยดำเนินงาน
• พุทธศักราช 2547 สถาบันราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี ได้ยกฐานะเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยตามพระราชบัญญัติมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏ พ.ศ. 2547 ส่งผลให้ต้องมีการปรับเปลี่ยนโครงสร้างหน่วยงานภายในมหาวิทยาลัย คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงสร้างดังกล่าว ปัจจุบัน คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ ดำเนินงานตามพันธกิจ 4 ประการ คือ การเรียนการสอน การวิจัย การบริการวิชาการแก่สังคมและการทำนุบำรุงศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม
• พุทธศักราช 2556 เปิดสาขาวิชาใหม่ คือ หลักสูตรรัฐศาสตรบัณฑิต สาขาวิชาการเมืองการปกครอง และหลักสูตรรัฐประศาสนศาสตรมหาบัณฑิต สาขาวิชารัฐประศาสนศาสตร์
• พุทธศักราช 2563 เปิดสาขาวิชาใหม่จำนวน 3 สาขาวิชา คือ หลักสูตรรัฐศาสตรมหาบัณฑิต สาขาวิชาการเมืองการปกครอง หลักสูตรศิลปศาสตรบัณฑิต สาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่ออาชีพ และหลักสูตรศิลปศาสตรบัณฑิต สาขาวิชานวัตกรรมสังคมเพื่อการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน
• พุทธศักราช 2565 จัดตั้งศูนย์บริการวิชาการท้องถิ่นและเครือข่ายชุมชน
• พุทธศักราช 2566 จัดตั้งศูนย์วิจัย นวัตกรรม และงานสร้างสรรค์และศูนย์วิเทศสัมพันธ์และสื่อสารองค์กร
• • In 1976, the name “Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences” was officially adopted, in line
  with other faculties at Surat Thani Teachers College. The Faculty was responsible for teaching
  students at the Diploma in Education level.
  • In 1978, the Faculty began admitting students to the Higher Diploma in Education programs in
  various majors within the fields of humanities and social sciences.
  • In 1979, undergraduate education was expanded under the In-Service Training Program (INSET),
  in accordance with the college’s policy
  • In 1980, the Faculty further expanded its academic offerings by admitting regular
  undergraduate students.
  • In 1982, the Faculty launched instructional programs under the In-Service Training Program
  (K.S.B.P.) in Chumphon Province, in line with the institution’s policy to expand graduate
  production to meet local needs within its service area.
  • In 1985, the Faculty admitted students to both diploma and bachelor’s degree programs in
  non-education fields, including liberal arts and several other disciplines.
  • In 1995, the term “Faculty of Studies” was changed to “Faculty,” removing the word
  “Studies,” in accordance with the Rajabhat Institute Act of 1995.
  • In 1999, the Faculty’s administrative structure was reformed in accordance with the policy of
  the Rajabhat Institute Council. Academic departments were dissolved and replaced by groups
  of faculty members organized as program committees, known as “program clusters,” while
  the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Office served as the administrative unit.
  • In 2004, Surat Thani Rajabhat Institute was officially upgraded to Surat Thani Rajabhat
  University under the Rajabhat University Act of 2004. This change led to a restructuring of
  internal organizational units. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences became part of
  this new structure. At present, the Faculty operates under four main missions: teaching and
  learning, research, academic services to society, and the preservation of arts and culture.
  • In 2013, new programs were introduced, including the Bachelor of Political Science in Politics
  and Government and the Master of Public Administration.
  • In 2020, three new programs were launched: the Master of Political Science in Politics and
  Government, the Bachelor of Arts in English for Careers, and the Bachelor of Arts in Social
  Innovation for Sustainable Development.
  • In 2022, the Local Academic Service and Community Network Center was established.
  • In 2023, the Research, Innovation and Creative Works Center, as well as the International
  Affairs and Corporate Communication Center, were established.
